Tinnitus Profile in Dr. Soetomo Hospital, Surabaya

Background: Approximately 10-15% of the world’s population has tinnitus with or without concomitant
hearing loss. This study aimed to determine the profile of tinnitus patients in the outpatient unit Neurotology
Division Dr.Soetomo hospital. Methods: This study was a retrospective descriptive study and conducted by
taking data from medical records. Result: Total there were 420 samples were taken from medical records
from January 2016 to December 2018. Ratio male and female patient was 3:1. The most patients were male
as many 315 patients (75%). The highest age group of tinnitus patients in the age group of 31-40 years were
232 patients (55.2%). Non-tinnitus complaints were 286 patients (68%). Complaints of unilateral tinnitus
were 398 patients (94.7%). Tinnitus complaints with hearing loss as many as 384 patients (91.4%). The most
hearing loss types in sensorineural type were 191 patients (49.8%). The highest degree of hearing loss in
the moderate hearing loss group was 277 patients (66%). Tinnitus patients with the most comorbidities were
CSOM in 98 patients (34.3%).
Conclusion: Profile of tinnitus patients mostly men, the age group 31-40 years, the main complaints of non
tinnitus, unilateral, sensorineural type hearing loss, with the degree of moderate hearing loss and concomitant
chronic suppurative otitis media.
